After our 13 mile hike Saturday, we had worked up quite an appetite. Matt and I have been craving sushi for a while now so we decided to use Grandma and Opa’s Christmas money (Thanks!) for a raw fish feast. We got all fancy-ish and headed to Sakura for our early date night. Very early. I have added time stamps so that you could see just how early-bird special we were last night/afternoon.
To start we ordered some hot sake to help us warm up. I am a huge sake lover and can drink it hot, cold, upside down, inside out, whatever. We were technically there before happy hour started (we couldn’t help but laugh at that) but our wonderful waiter honored the deal so we got two bottles for the price of one. Sake score!
Our meal came with miso soup and ginger salad, my favorite.
For the appetizer we ordered one of the monthly specials, the poke tuna-diced tuna, avocado, seaweed salad with miso dressing
This was gone in 2.4 seconds. Amaze.
We are a big sushi couple. If we are going out to dinner, there is a 90% chance it is for sushi. However, Matt always complains that he never leaves feeling ‘full’. Our goal for Saturday night was to change this. Solution: Sushi for Two.
Spicy salmon roll, eel avocado roll, lots of sushi and sashimi. I have tried eel before and was not a fan but decided to give it a shot again and was pleasantly surprised. We gobbled up every last piece of rice. It was wonderful and Matt was stuffed. Win, win.
After dinner (5:40pm) we decided to walk to the bar next door to have a drink and watch the rest of the football game. Too bad the bar doesn’t open until 6pm. Oops. We took our old foggie butts home and had some leftover lemon crème cake instead.
Is it smart or sad that we just ate it right off of the plastic container?
I thought of meeting some friends out for a girls night but when I glanced at the clock at 8pm and was already feeling sleepy, I decided to just commit to my granny lifestyle. I crawled into bed around 9:30p and fell asleep while watching the Notebook. Yep, I am 27 going on 98.
What time do you eat dinner?
Do you act your age?
I have the sense of humor of an 8 year old boy and the interests of a 70 year old woman.
Are you a sushi fan? Sake?
Yes. And Yes.
