One of the things I wanted to work on this year was tracking my workouts. Well, 16 days into the New Year I finally got around to doing that. Maybe I should have also made a resolution to not procrastinate so much…eh, I’ll get around to that. I considered the many iPhone apps and computery options but when it really comes down to it I am a paper-pen girl.
A co-worker gave me this beautiful leather planner for Christmas which is perfect for tracking workouts. I have a desk calendar at work and a wall calendar at home but wanted to keep my workouts separate from my doctors appointments and vacations. Plus, this is easy enough to travel with.
As I was filling this in I realized how bad my memory is. I could not remember what day I ran or where I ran it. Luckily I track my every move on this blog so I could fill in the gaps by cyber stalking myself. I like being able to look at something physical so hopefully I will keep this up…
A few weeks ago I put on my big girl pants and tried my first ever group fitness class: Core Cycle, spin intervals mixed with ab work. I loved it and swore I would be back. Of course, have not been back since. Oops. BUT last night I did try Rowlates, mix of Rowing and pilates-both things I have never done before. Apparently I’m drawn towards fusion type classes.
With spin I felt like I didn’t know what I was doing. With rowlates I KNEW I was completely clueless. I got a quick intro from my super sweet instructor but it took me a little while to get the hang of it. Eventually I kinda figured it out and it was awesome and I loved it. The first half of the class was pilates moves on the mat, some of the moves I was familiar with, some were completely new, all burned. The second half of the class was on the rowing machine. This was my favorite part. We rowed 1,000 meters as fast as we could, then hopped up and did some strength moves (twisting lunges with weights and more ab work) then hopped back on the machine for 750 meters, repeat strength moves, 500 meters, stretch. The rowing part was a friendly race to the finish so it really got everyone moving. I already want to do another one of these classes.
I am pretty sure I have never used any these muscles before though so I will probably have to be carried around tomorrow Lady Gaga style…
…minus the egg and creepy people wearing flesh colored leather. Eek
Do you track your workouts? How?
When did Lady Gaga officially become “too much” for you?
The meat dress was the final straw for me. That’s just gross.

/ January 17, 2013Yes, I’m definitely a paper-pen kind of girl, too. I track all of my runs (including pace, etc), as well as strength training workouts in my calendar. It’s great to be able to look back on the training and figure out what worked or didn’t work well.

/ January 17, 2013Yay I’m not the only one that still uses old fashion paper:)

/ January 17, 2013Oh my gosh rowlates sounds awesome! I always think I will remember my workouts but I should write them down so I can look back at them. My memory bank isn’t great!

/ January 17, 2013I def recommend checking out a rowing class if you can find one. It was soooo much fun!

/ January 17, 2013I use daily mile and I’ve had really good luck with it, actually! I’m prettygood about coming back from my workout and logging it immediately so I don’t forget. I like how easy it is to look back.
And rowlates? I love workouts that combine multiple kinds of exercise. That sounds really cool!

/ January 17, 2013I def like the combo workouts. I feel like I’m getting 2 for 1

/ January 17, 2013Lady gaga was too much after 2 weeks of hearing her music played on every hits station for 24 hours a day. I actually just got married and told our dj no gaga or pink allowed at the reception. Just sick of them I guess.

/ January 17, 2013I totally use my blog to track my workouts too. I actually used to use a little notebook and I think it was a better method, especially when you have a cute little notebook like you got! I just use my blog to track my workouts now but it’s more because I don’t have set habits yet (lots of travelling and such) so I’d probably lose it!
