Food Network Heat Seeker Challenge

Yesterday morning Matt and I woke up before the rest of the house per usual. We didn’t have enough time for a decent run so we decided to take  Charley on a little walk instead.

I am not a big fan of the beach, but I do love the water. My friend Sheri most definitely has the best back yard of any of my friends.

Charley did his business and then Matt and I drove to his grandparents’ house in St Petersburg. The weather was chilly and overcast so we hung around inside all morning visiting with grandparents, his mom and his little brother (in town for the day) while other aunts, uncles and cousins popped in and out. Saturday night Opa hurt his back and wanted Matt to help ‘straighten him out’. Matt, Mr. Not Even Close to Being a Chiropractor, was more than a little nervous about lifting and shaking Opa.

Luckily all cracks were good cracks and no one was rushed to the emergency room. After a little unlicensed chiropracty, we took the boat out for a little ride around the canal and bay. It was a little chilly so the ride was short but sweet.

We made our way back to south Tampa to meet up with Sheri and my sister at Whiskey Joe’s. We had dinner plans but wanted something to munch on and quench our thirst in the mean time. I ordered the Agave Margarita which was described as “for the margarita aficionado” which is apparently Spanish for “very, very strong margarita“.

Snacks were Calamari Strips and Crab, Spinach and Artichoke Dip. Good, but not stellar. But to be honest, after that margarita I could’ve eaten toenails and been satisfied.

Later we headed to Largo to check out some friends’ new house. The boys watched football and the gals chatted and drank wine. Around 10:30pm we headed out for the latest dinner of my life. Crabby Bills was just a few minutes away and has a really fun outside space. Unfortunately some of us (me) were not prepared for the cold and insisted we eat inside which was still great. As soon as Matt saw the menu, he knew what he was going to order:

If there is a Food Network symbol by a menu item, Matt will ALWAYS order it.

Volcano Gator with Inferno Sauce. I had one piece with out the inferno sauce and my mouth was blazing. Matt went through 8 glasses of water and 15 saltine crackers while eating them. His review “ohhh hurts sooooo gooooddddd!” Heat Seeker Challenge: WON. Other people at the table ordered the regular gator bites and they were fantastic for the non-heat seekers. I was still full from our apps so I just snacked on what everyone else ordered: fish dip (good), gator bites (very good), osyters (fantastic). If you are looking for a good, fun, late night bite to eat in Largo, check our Crabby Bill’s.

Are you a fan of the beach?

Do you like spicy food?

  5. An agave marg sounds fantastic! All of your food pics are making me hungry. I think that I like the beach in theory, but oceans freak me out because of the large unknown in the giant body of water.

  6. I Love the beach, but usually to walk or swim, not lay around. We have rocky beaches up here so it is a little different.

  9. Haha I love spicy foods too! I love hot sauce too. It’s weird because I’ve already noticed that certain foods and spices aren’t that spicy to me anymore because I’ve eaten so much of it!
