Yesterday morning Matt and I slept in (8:30a), had a little breakfast, hung out with Sheri then hit the road back to Tallahassee around 11am. We had planned to do our long run Monday morning but my stomach was not feeling well at all and my allergy medicine was making me super drowsy.
So we made the executive decision to run when we got back to Tallahassee. I was starting to feel better so I decided to not pass on my roadtrip tradition and got a Yoohoo from a rest stop around Gainesville.
We got in around 3pm and headed to the St. Marks Trail with the plan of doing 6 miles. I made it just about 2 miles before my stomach decided to ruin my life. My stomach has never been my best friend during runs. It is very picky about what I feed it the 24-36 hours before a run and I am still learning (usually the hard way) what works and doesn’t. After two rest days and 4 hours in a car, my legs were pissed at my stomach for ruining a wonderful run. But I guess that’s what I get for eating volcano gator bites the night before….
Oh well, some runs are just crappy. Pun intended. My training schedule has taken a pretty big hit the past two weeks with our trips but that’s life. I will try to get back on track today with a 4 miler after work.
After admiting defeat, we went cruising around Costco and Publix then headed home where Matt cooked up a healthy dinner to start and undo my weekend of fried everything.
He baked the salmon with some dill, minced garlic, salt, pepper, and sundried tomatoes. We were out of butter so he coated the salmon with some of the oil from the jarred sundried tomatoes and that was genius. He also roasted some sweet potatoes, onions, and broccoli and made a Caesar salad with tomatoes and hearts of palm. This was the perfect ‘welcome home’ dinner.
We missed House of Lies on Sunday night so we watched that while I snacked on a newly discovered candy, Sixlets. My friends had these at their housewarming party and I stole a purseful.
Last season Matt and I couldn’t get enough of House of Lies. We’ve watched the 2 new episodes of the new season and so far it sucks. I think I may be giving up on this show. Sorry, Roscoe.
This morning I headed into work in a pretty good mood since it’s already Tuesday and was super happy to see that my boxes finally made it to my new office! But while I was setting up everything I came across 4 dead lady bugs on my window.
Later in the day I saw a few more lady bugs flying around the office. I think we have a ladybug infestation. But as far as infestations go, I guess lady bugs aren’t so bad.
Any other sensitive stomach runners out there? What do you do to prevent issues mid run?
Do you prefer eating out or cooking at home?
The only thing I prefer eating out is sushi. Other than that, I choose eating at home 99% of the time.

/ January 22, 2013I used to watch House of Lies but lost interest. I thought it was just a lot of nudity/ scandal without much substance to the plot. And yeah, I’m 21 and yet already I’m noticing that my body doesn’t tolerate certain foods, like white bread or pasta, as easily as it used to. And I do prefer cooking at home, but a nice meal out every two weeks or so is quite welcome! Hopefully your upcoming 4 miler is less crappy haha.

/ January 22, 2013Thanks lol As long as my body can continue to handle chocolate, I should be ok

/ January 22, 2013Sixlets! Hope you figure everything out with your stomach..that’s so frustrating. I always always always eat carbs before I exercise. It seems to settle my stomach, which is prone to a lot of acidity. And I would rather eat at home every day…saves money and you can wear sweats :p
Runner Girl Eats
/ January 22, 2013I am all about dinner in sweats! I also like carbs pre runs.
Running In Heels
/ January 22, 2013I love eating out but I rarely get to do it. Trying new restaurants is one of my favorite things though!

/ January 22, 2013I do prefer to eat at home. Except for wings and ribs. So many places do those two things better than I ever could.
Our apartments in NC used to become infested with lady bugs. There are worse things.

/ January 22, 2013I agree. I will take ladybugs over most other bugs!

/ January 22, 2013I love sixlets. I don’t remember the last time I had some of those. I would actually prefer to have a chef. Eating out can be a little intense all the time but sometimes cooking is such a job! Clearly I’m not a cool foodie
Runner Girl Eats
/ January 22, 2013Haha luckily Matt usually acts as my chef so I get the best of both worlds
Kerry
/ January 22, 2013I love eating out once in a while but I usually like meals at home better
. That salmon dinner is drool worthy! Your man did good!
Runner Girl Eats
/ January 22, 2013He really did. It was great!

/ January 22, 2013It’s a toss up between eating at home and eating out. Sometimes I love the convenience of eating out, even if my wallet hates me after. P.S. That salmon has my stomach rumbling!
Runner Girl Eats
/ January 22, 2013We had been craving salmon for a while and this def hit the spot

/ January 22, 2013oh man, I completely understand the sensitive stomach issues. I’m still working through what to eat day/night before, and directly before a run too(usually empty stomach before one!)
Runner Girl Eats
/ January 22, 2013I will always choose an empty stomach over trying something I am unsure of, too.
pickyrunner
/ January 22, 2013I like trying new restaurants occasionally but there comes a point where I’d just rather eat in. I hope your stomach settles down some more!

/ January 22, 2013Charley is so cute!

/ January 22, 2013Ah I know! He is worth the stuffy nose and itchy eyes lol

/ January 22, 2013I have a stomach of steel luckily (except for eating during the run). I like cooking at home except for once in a while. Charley is the cutest!!
Runner Girl Eats
/ January 22, 2013I am super jealous of your steel stomach. Hopefully mine will get more stable soon.

/ January 22, 2013Charley is adorable, and your veggie packed dinner looks fabulous.
Sorry about the tummy troubles.
Runner Girl Eats
/ January 22, 2013I always crave veggies when coming back from vacay.

/ January 23, 2013Oh sorry about your “crappy” run! Running always has a way of making me plot out all nearest restroom facilities
I do better running on empty, but then I can’t run very long without some fuel. So I”m always trying to balance the stomach issues. That’s what gives me the most stress in a race. I”m always wondering if I’ll be okay stomach wise.
I love eating out but always feel SO much better eating home cooked food.
Runner Girl Eats
/ January 23, 2013I am the same way. Eating out tastes delish but 1 hour later I feel like crap.
Whine Less
/ January 23, 2013I prefer to eat at home, then it makes eating out seem more like a treat.
Runner Girl Eats
/ January 23, 2013Yep! We save it for special occasions.

/ January 23, 2013If I’m running in the morning, then ideally I will eat a bowl of porridge with raisins, sugar and cinnamon 2-3 hours before my run. For lunchtime runs I find a mid-morning snack of a banana and a yogurt tends to keep me going (although granted I don’t have time for a long run at lunchtime so it’s more about not being hungry when I start running). When I have evening training sessions, I tend to eat a jacket potato with beans and cheese for lunch and then have a late-afternoon snack.
Do you have the same tummy problems when you go to exercise classes? If not, maybe you can trick yourself into thinking you’re going to a class instead of running
Runner Girl Eats
/ January 23, 2013The stomach issues are usually just with running. Ill have to try to trick my tummy next run!
jswesner
/ January 26, 2013I have to go a good 3 hours without anything before a run. It is very annoying that my stomach is so picky. I would not have been able to make it even two miles.
Runner Girl Eats
/ January 26, 2013It’s the worst! The only thing I can sometimes handle pre-run is a banana.
