Running pictures crush dreams

When I run I feel fast, strong and beautiful…then I get an email from Brightroom photography saying that my Hot Chocolate Run pictures are ready to be viewed. Not quite the Kara Goucher form I have in my head. What is my right hand doing? Why are my shorts so short? Eh.

Holy white legs, batman!

Holy white legs, batman!

It never fails, I open the email with hopes of a graceful gazelle and get an awkward squirrel. At least I’m smiling, right?

Moving on…

Yesterday afternoon I hit the road for a 4 mile run. The weather was gorgeous and I had been feeling great all day so I wanted to squeeze in some run time before my group class later. I ran 3 miles in 27 minutes and then the stomach said “Whoa, Nelly!” and that was the end of the run. Further than Monday’s run but not quite what I wanted. I am not running until Friday so hopefully things will be better by then. After all, if bad runs now mean good runs later, I am due for some hella good run soon.

After running, I headed to my PiYo class. Keeping up with the theme of combo classes (Rowlates and Core Cycle earlier this month), PiYo is a pilates-yoga mix. The instructor was subbing the class and it was a lot more cardio than I was expecting. But I had a great time and at one point my wrist was sweating. I think that means I was really working hard. I have not done any yoga in a longgg time and this just reminded me how tight I am. Weekly yoga needs to come back into my life.

When I came home Matt had dinner waiting.

He started marinating it Monday night and it was fantastic. He used a recipe similar to this. I could get used to working out and coming home to delicious Vaca Frita and Big Bang Theory on the telly.

Are you surprised when you see pictures of yourself running?

Do you do yoga?

This was my first class but I used to do at home videos all of the time.

  1. I think it’s a good race picture! You look fast and happy!

Is PiYo different from Yogalates? I don’t know that I’ve ever participated in a combo workout, but I do like combo names!*

  4. Can’t say I like the yoga. I know it is great, good for me, all that. But I just don’t like it.
Race pictures are AWFUL. But I will take bad pictures for a good race. My DH is my official race photographer. He has a way of making me look skinny.

  10. Oh god my race pictures are always terrible haha.
I am trying to get more into yoga but it’s very hard for me to just relax and think I’m working out.
My school offers PiYo during the semester and I’ve always wanted to try it. I’d say by your post you recommend it?

  11. Your picture looks cute! If you want really ugly race pics, there’s a tumblr dedicated to posting seriously ugly race pictures. My goal is to get on there one day. http://uglyracepics.tumblr.com/

  12. Haha I totally feel the same way about running pictures. I feel like a superstar during the run but thanks to bright room I realize it’s not such a pretty sight! I need to get back on the yoga train too. I miss the classes!

I like to imagine myself looking like a gazelle when i run… but i have a feeling i look more like a basset or something!! haha XD

Even though my mum is a yoga teacher, ive never really done yoga. Maybe once or twice ‘A Year!’… (Many people are shocked) but this year, my new years resolution was to start doing yoga once a week (I mean its free for me, so why not?!). And so many people say it has such great benefits, and my mum – the yoga teacher – actually looks great!!! so we’ll see whether i keep it up or not (I prefer running/going to the gym!)
