Pearls for lunch

Yesterday was a great day. After our morning run and fruit filled breakfast, we got ready for the next meal of the day, natch. Our friends were passing through Tallahassee on their way home from a wedding in Santa Rosa, FL and asked if we were available for lunch. Heck yes we were. Matt took this as a special occasion to go big. Enter oysters:

Raw oysters

My kinda spread

These were only a few of the 100 oysters Matt bought for 4 people and a baby (don’t worry, the baby just had some saltines ;) . He also grilled burgers and sausage that we will probably be eating for the next two weeks. While we were eating the oysters Sarah bit/nearly chipped a tooth on a pearl! I didn’t take a picture but it was pretty big. I have been eating oysters for a while and have never seen a pearl. Maybe because I usually just swallow them whole to avoid noticing their booger-like texture. Maybe all this time I have been swallowing pearls? After our friends hit the road, we finished watching the Heat game (which we lost) and then we Matt shucked the remaining oysters so that he could make oyster chowder. While shucking we found TWO more pearls!

Teeny, tiny unattractive pearls

Not nearly as pretty or big as the one Sarah found but still cool. Go figure, out of all the times I’ve eaten oysters before, not one pearl. Then THREE pearls in this batch.

While Matt shucked oysters I decided to catch up on my current events.

I'm very well read...in trash lit.

These US Weekly mags are delivered weekly despite the fact that we don’t pay for them or request them. I would complain, but I like knowing what’s going on in the lives of the Real Housewives. ELLE is a little to fashion forward for me since my idea of trendy clothing involves spandex shorts and compression socks but this month had an article right up my alley.

beeee-utiful!

beeee-utiful!

The article was all about the beauty and health benefits of honey and bees. All this did was make me more determined to get Matt to let me have a beehive in our backyard…and want some honey. Seriously, bees are where it’s at.

Are you an oyster eater? Raw? Steamed?

all of the above

Was your weekend relaxing or exhausting?

Sooo relaxing and wonderful :)

  1. I can’t eat seafood. I can’t eat anything that looks so gross… everyone tells me how good it is but I just can’t!

  2. I don’t like oysters, although I have tried them which I’m proud of because I don’t like seafood. I would love to find a pearl though!

  3. No oysters here. But the fact that they come with jewelry is pretty cool. Saturday was exhausting but Sunday was kind of chill.

  8. Sounds like a fun weekend! I’m not a huge raw oyster fan but I think I just need to douse them in some hot sauce or something next time. ;) Have a good week!

  9. OMG I would be in heaven!! I love oysters and there is absolutely nowhere to get them around here (other than the grocery store occasionally and they cost a fortune!) but in my hometown I eat them a LOT! SO JEALOUS :)
