Last night I am pretty sure we had the smelliest kitchen in the country. While browsing Pinterest earlier this week I came across this recipe for an anchovy salad dressing. Anchovies are a love or hate thing and I love them, especially on salads. I have never actually dealt with them myself and figured this recipe seemed pretty straight forward so why not try it out? I was out of wine vinegars so I substituted lime juice and I am not fancy/patient enough to use a mortar so into the blender everything went.
Matt insisted I add a dash of honey to sweeten it a little which was a good suggestion. It was tasty but next time I will definitely use a wine vinegar and maybe add some capers. Matt was a little skeptical at first about the anchovies but in the end decided that they basically just taste like pure salt and are wonderful. One more person converted to the Anchovy Fan Club.
To add to the funky kitchen smell, Matt started making his oyster chowder with the shucked and de-pearled oysters. We first had this concoction when we were left with lots of oysters after my birthday bash last year and Matt got creative in the kitchen ie threw a bunch of stuff in a pot and called it chowder. It was delicious so we try to have leftover oysters when ever we get a bushel.
In this batch we had potatoes, green peppers, onions, carrots, milk, turkey bacon, parsley, random herbs, and oysters (obvi). He usually uses cream instead of milk to make it thicker and regular bacon but this lighter version was still wonderful. Topped with a sprinkling of parmesan and crunched up saltines.
After our very fishy dinner we decided froyo was needed. There has been a Yogurt Mountain less than 2 miles from my house for over a year and I have never gone. GASP. Last night we fell in love with YoMo (my new abbreviation, Yogurt Mountain is just too long). I got the salted caramel pretzel, crème brulee, and chocolate chip froyo topped with Reeses Pieces, s’more bites, caramel truffles, sprinkles. Matt got white chocolate mouse with cappachino bites, waffle crisps, butterfingers and hot fudge.
I told Matt that he is not taking advantage of self serve froyo by only choosing one flavor of froyo and he counter argued there were too many flavors going on in my cup. Sometimes I just don’t understand people.
We were in a movie mood and since none of the 100+ channels we pay for had anything decent on, we rented the movie Looper OnDemand. Movies like this usually drive me nuts because I just can’t buy into the whole idea that time travel is possible and am constantly finding flaws in the story. But anything with Joseph Gordon-Levitt is worth a shot, right? Overall we liked the movie and think it was worth the $5.99. But I still think that this was JGL’s best performance to date.
If you could live in any other time period, what would it be?
There is no doubt that I should have been born in the 40s/50s.
Anchovies: yay or nay?
Favorite froyo topping?
The caramel truffles are my new favorite topping. So good!

/ January 28, 2013I really like wet walnuts on my froyo. Or fresh fruit! My favorite less-healthy treats are sno-caps and cheesecake bites. The flavors at your froyo place sound amazing and I might have to take a trip out there
I love that you have a man that helps you cook. I’ve only ever had men that were good at eating, not so good at cooking. But to be honest, I LOVE LOVE LOVE cooking, so I’m not sure I could share my kitchen.. but he’s welcome to do the dishes
If I could live in any other time period, I would say probably the 60s and 70s, with all the fellow hippes (minus the drugs). Mainly, I’d love to be involved in the initial steps of the environmental movement.
