These past few days have been a whirlwind! I can’t believe it’s already Monday. I would have loved nothing more than for this weekend to never end. Saturday morning I woke up bright and early so I was able to chat with my father for our normal Groundhog Day quote fest and discuss how a Punxsutawney PA visit is on our Bucket List. I was also able to watch Phil predict the weather live.
After I finished my “It’s springtime” dance, Matt and I started our day that we would want to relive over and over by going out for a celebratory French toast and chocolate milk breakfast.
Canopy Road is a hole in the wall breakfast/lunch place and one of our favorite spots in town. Perfect start to the day.
On the schedule for the day was bike riding and seafood eating on St. George Island. We are bike rack-less so we headed to Walmart to pick one up, then hit the road. On our way out of town, my sister (who does not love Groundhog Day) sent this group text to me and my father:
St. George Island is a tiny beach town a little less than 2 hours from Tallahassee. We don’t go nearly enough so I was pretty stoked that we got to spend the entire day soaking up some gorgeous weather.
As soon as we got to the island we hopped on the bikes. There was a pretty intense headwind so our leisurely bike ride was quite the workout for a few miles but at 60 degrees and sunny, who cares?
After an hour we stopped at a new to us place:
It’s a cute little store with beer, wine, fresh baked bread, fancy cheeses, and other homemade snacks. We picked out a French baguette, some smoked fish spread and a beer to share at one of their outside tables before hopping back on the bikes:
If you are ever at St. George Island, you must go here. Everything was fantastic.
Earlier at Walmart we started chatting with the man in line in front of us about our plans for the day and he suggested that we go to the top of the St. George Lighthouse. Since neither of us had ever been, we decided to take our new bff’s advice after we finished touring the island.
So we climbed up steps of the 65 foot tall lighthouse:
And crawled through the 21inx 24in hole:
To the top of the salvaged lighthouse (the original SGI lighthouse was destroyed in early 2000s and the current SGI lighthouse was rebuilt using salvaged bits of the original)
The top of the lighthouse is pretty small but we were the only people there so we got to hang out and enjoy the view. And Mr Walmart was right, you could see the whole, beautiful island.
But none of the views compared to the view inside the lighthouse:
Matt just gave me permission to obsess about this day for the rest of our lives
