Happy Fat Tuesday! I am a HUGE fan of everything New Orleans and am super sad that I did not make it to NOLA for any Mardi Gras celebrations (I say this most years because in the 8 years I have lived in Tallahassee I have only made it to Mardi Gras twice).
I am not a huge partier but something about New Orleans and Mardi Gras just makes me happy…
Tallahassee is only a 6 hour drive from New Orleans and there used to be a party bus service that would take people to/from for like $70. You hopped on the bus at 10am, got to Bourbon Street as the sun is setting, drank hand grenades and caught beads until 4am, then hopped back on the bus and woke up in Tallahassee. Can’t. Beat. That.
Heck, even New Orleans in November makes me happy:
The food, the music, the culture, I love it all. I might not be on Bourbon Street tonight but that won’t stop me from bringing a little of the Big Easy into my house with some cajun rice on my plate and Louis Armstrong on the stereo. Next best thing, right?
Fat Tuesday is not just parades and beads though. It is the last hurrah before Ash Wednesday begins the Lent season. I am not super religious but have always participated in Lent by ‘giving up’ something that I enjoy as a way to prepare for the Easter feast. I still don’t know what I will be giving up this year but let’s hope it goes better than the year I gave up chocolate and ended up eating chocolate chip pancakes the Friday after Ash Wednesday. Ooops. BTW those 48 hours is also probably the longest chocolate free streak I have had to date. Embarrassing.
Ok, I am out to enjoy my last hurrah with a Hurricane and some live music.
Anyone else celebrating Mardi Gras?
Ever been to New Orleans/Mardi Gras?

/ February 12, 2013I WANT A HURRICANE. Take me with you to get one! Maybe I’ll have to go make myself a “mock” one….haha. I’m attempting to give up junk food for Lent. Actually, I’m not attempting. I’m doing it. I eat it WAY too much. I need to teach myself some self-control.
