Welcome to Miami

Waking up at my parents house in Miami is my favorite thing in the whole wide world. Except when they buy a new down comforter that I am allergic too. Luckily they have a stash of Claritin so I was eventually able to breathe through my nose. Once I regained my senses, literally, Matt and I hit the road for a neighborhood stroll.

The plan for the day was to run 7 miles. But on Friday I received an email from our half marathon organizers telling us that the race has been rescheduled to a weekend we are unable to race and from beautiful Key Biscayne to ugly middle of Miramar by the Miami Dolphins stadium. There are no other half marathon options for us in Florida until October so I’m a little bummed. Between the canceled half marathon and the breakfast feast i knew was waiting for us at the house, I had zero motivation to run. 7 miles turned into 4.5miles and I’m ok with that.
After breakfast Matt and my father did what they do every time they hang out: eat oysters:

We brought down about 100 oysters so they had a lot of shucking to do but my father was left solo so that Matt and I could spend the day in Ft Lauderdale with his family. The day started with a Makers Mark toast to the newly engaged couple (us!) and ended with cake:

Ain’t nothing wrong with that :) in between the booze and sugar there was enough food to feed a village. Around 12:30am our sugar high wore enough to safely drive to my parents house for round two of the comforter that is slowly trying to kill me.

Ever been registered for a race that was canceled? What happened?
Luckily they are offering full refunds for us so I am not too upset but still disappointed.
What keeps you motivated to make long runs?
I am def motivated by races. I am looking for the next race I can sign up for now to keep the momentum going

  1. Too bad about the race. I’ve never entered one that has been cancelled before, but that has to be a bummer for sure. Hopefully something else will pop up soon. Enjoy Miami!

  4. I want in on the oyster party! Sorry about your race being rescheduled :/ That’s a bummer. And a 4.5 mile run instead of 7 miles is totally acceptable in my book.

  9. I would be so pissed if my half got rescheduled. At least you get a refund! I hope you find another half that motivates you. I’m definitely motivated by races too, so I’d be disappointed.

  10. I’ve registered for a race too far in advance that the time conflicted with a work conference. I was completely bummed that I lost my money and my motivation. I will make it up this year! I hope you fin another half marathon that you like!
