Running Bucket List

Every runner has as list of must do races. Here is my running bucket list:

1. The ParisMarathon - One spring day in 2009 in Paris, two friends and I decided to stroll from our apartment rental to the Louvre. However, we could not cross the street because there were thousands of runners in our way. This was years before I ever dreamed of running for fun and knew nothing about marathons but the excitement was contagious and we had a blast watching the marathon we just stumbled upon.

Blowing a snot rocket in front of the Eiffel Tower is way classier than doing so in the US

2. Twilight Zone Tower of Terror 10 miler- I have only heard good things about the Disney races (except for the steep entry fees). Running through Disney at night with Disney’s villains is right up my alley.

I would listen to Ursula sing Poor Unfortunate Souls on repeat during the whole race.

3. Boston Santa Speedo Run - This is another run that I stumbled upon when traveling. Crazy people running 1 mile in their underwear in freezing temps then drinking at bars all morning? This is my kind of race.

Because sometimes running should just be about fun and costumes.

4. New Year Midnight Run- Tons of people dream of spending New Years Eve in Times Square. Not me. That seems like hell. BUT running through Central Park at midnight and having fireworks at the finish line is my idea of dream.

This would be a heck of a lot cheaper than going out in NYC on NYE, too.

5. Big Sur Half and Full Marathon- Bart Yasso has said if he could only run one race, this would be it and I am not about to argue with Bart. Mountains, valleys, bridges, Pacific Ocean and more.

You don't get views like this in Florida

6. Ragnar Key West- Spending the weekend sleeping in a van and running a relay with other running nuts is   something that I really want to do. Plus, look at that scenery?

It would be pretty tempting not to dive into that clear water.

7. Athens Marathon- I am in love with all things Greek and couldn’t imagine anything cooler than running the original marathon.

Baklava would make some pretty fantastic carb loading.

What races are on your running bucket list?

What makes a race bucket list worthy?

For me it is location and originality.

Has anyone ran any of these races? TELL ME ABOUT IT!

  2. I wanna do the 10 miler as well! Obviously since we’re both florida based we should just run florida races together haha. I wanna run the Princess Half again, a Mud Run, a Color Run, and I think I would like to run any long distance run (in acceptable weather) in my home city, Chicago.

  5. I think I’m officially going to have to run all of these before I die. The Boston one is the most realistic, followed by a disney run, but a destination run would be ah-mazingggggg

  7. This is SUCH an awesome post!

Big Sur is DEFINITELY on my bucket list, as well as the Maritona de Roma (Rome Marathon) but I love some of your funny ones, I’ve GOT to check those out. Maybe 2013 will be the year to check some of these off!

  10. I’m registered for this year’s Tower of Terror 10 Miler! Can’t wait. I would LOVE to run an international race at some point- both Paris and Athens look awesome. I also saw a half or full marathon at the Great Wall of China, which sounds so neat but super challenging with the stairs and varying elevations!

  11. I’m all about local races, and I’d like to do the marathon in my city and a bunch of other big local races since we have a great running community here. Big races include: the Chicago Marathon, the NYC Marathon (or half), Big Sur, Marine Corp Marathon, Cherry Blossom 10-miler in D.C., an all-women’s race and a Disney race.
